This Privacy Policy describes how Pray First ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
Pray First is designed to be privacy-respecting and offline-first. Most of your data stays on your device. We collect the following categories of information:
- Profile and onboarding information you choose to provide, such as your first name, your stated screen-time habits, spiritual goals, denomination, relationship with faith, personal struggles, commitment level, and prayer frequency.
- Mood check-ins recording how you feel before and after prayer.
- Prayer activity such as your prayer streak, total prayers, time spent praying, and journal reflections you save.
- App-blocking preferences — the apps you choose to block and your unblock schedules.
- Device and technical information such as device model, operating system version, language, time zone, app version, and a device advertising identifier.
- Usage and diagnostic data such as feature interactions, session activity, crash reports, and performance metrics.
- Purchase information related to subscriptions, processed by the app stores and our subscription provider (we do not receive your full payment card details).
Your name, prayer journal, streak, mood history, and app-blocking choices are stored locally on your device using on-device storage and are not, by default, transmitted to us.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide core features such as daily prayers, devotionals, streak tracking, and app blocking.
- Personalize prayers and content based on your mood, goals, and preferences.
- Send you reminders and notifications you have enabled.
- Process and validate subscriptions and restore purchases.
- Display advertising and measure its effectiveness.
- Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve app performance and stability.
- Understand how features are used so we can improve the app.
App Blocking and Screen Time Permissions
Pray First's core feature blocks distracting apps until you complete your daily prayer. To do this we request system permissions that vary by platform:
- iOS (Screen Time / Family Controls): We use Apple's Family Controls and Screen Time APIs. When you select which apps to block, your selection is represented by private, opaque tokens managed by the operating system. Pray First cannot read the identity of the specific apps you select, and this information is not transmitted to us or any third party.
- Android (Usage Access and Display-over-other-apps): We request usage access and overlay permissions so the app can detect when a blocked app is opened and display the blocking screen. This processing happens on your device.
We use this access solely to provide the blocking feature. We do not use it to monitor or profile your general app usage for advertising.
Notifications
With your permission, Pray First sends local and push notifications such as prayer reminders and devotional prompts. On Android this requires the notifications permission, and exact-alarm and boot-completed permissions are used so scheduled reminders fire reliably and survive device restarts. Push notifications are delivered using Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Sensitive Information
Because Pray First is a faith-based app, some information you provide — such as your religious denomination, your relationship with faith, and personal struggles (for example anxiety, loneliness, or other reflections) — may be considered sensitive or special-category data under certain laws.
You provide this information voluntarily, and it is used only to personalize your prayer and devotional experience. This data is stored on your device. Where required by law, by providing this information you consent to its use for these purposes. You can clear it at any time by deleting your data or uninstalling the app.
Advertising and Tracking
Pray First may display advertising, including banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads served through Google AdMob. Free users may see ads; subscribers to Pray First Pro do not.
- On iOS, before any tracking across apps or websites occurs, we ask for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, we do not track you for personalized advertising.
- We and our advertising partners may use a device advertising identifier to measure ad performance and, with your consent, to show more relevant ads.
- We use marketing and attribution tools, including the Facebook SDK and TikTok advertising events, to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.
You can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings at any time.
In-App Purchases and Subscriptions
Pray First offers an optional paid subscription, Pray First Pro. Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to manage and validate subscriptions and to restore purchases. Payment is handled by the app stores; we do not receive or store your full payment card information. RevenueCat receives purchase events and a pseudonymous identifier to manage your entitlement.

We rely on trusted third-party services that may process limited data on our behalf or as independent controllers. Please review their privacy policies:

Data Storage and Retention
Your prayer journal, streaks, mood history, profile answers, reminders, and app-blocking selections are stored locally on your device. We retain this information for as long as the app is installed. Data processed by third-party services is retained according to their respective policies. Diagnostic and analytics data is generally retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data from your device.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including reliance on platform-level security and encryption provided by Apple, Google, and our service providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Pray First is not directed to children. The app is intended for users aged 13 and older (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, such as 16 in parts of the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at marjmsm@proton.me and we will take steps to delete it.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at marjmsm@proton.me. Many choices can also be managed directly in the app and in your device settings (notifications, tracking, and advertising identifier).
Account Deletion
You can delete your data at any time. Because most of your information is stored locally, uninstalling the app removes that data from your device. If you have created an account or any data is associated with you on our backend services, you may request deletion by emailing marjmsm@proton.me with the subject "Account Deletion." We will verify your request and delete the associated data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law. To cancel a subscription, manage it through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.
International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Your continued use of Pray First after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
